64GB DDR4 RAM: AM4, X99 and Xeon workstations

64GB of DDR4 is workstation memory on a budget. The buyers are people running video editing, virtual machines, large photo libraries, CAD or a home lab on a platform they already own: a Ryzen 5000 or 3000 on AM4, an Intel 10th to 14th generation desktop on a DDR4 board, an older HEDT system on X99 or X299, or a used Xeon workstation from the E5 v3 and v4 era. The 87 64GB DDR4 kits and modules above are ranked by price per gigabyte, from £1.41/GB to £41.66/GB with a median of £8.83/GB; the cheapest right now is Dell 64 GB Certified Memory Module DDR4 LRDIMM 2666Mhz 4Rx4, 0A9781930… at £90.00.

2x32GB or 4x16GB?

  • 2x32GB is the better choice on dual-channel desktops such as AM4 and mainstream Intel: two slots stay free and the kit is easier to run at its rated speed.
  • 4x16GB is often cheaper and works well on DDR4, where four sticks cost far less speed than on DDR5. On quad-channel platforms such as X99, X299 and Xeon E5 workstations, four sticks is in fact the right layout, one per channel.
  • Check the per-slot limit on boards from before 2018: many top out at 16GB per slot, which makes 4x16GB the only way to 64GB.

RDIMMs in the list

This page includes registered server memory, because 64GB of DDR4 is a common configuration in retired servers. Used 16GB and 32GB DDR4 RDIMMs, and single 64GB RDIMMs and LRDIMMs, are some of the cheapest memory per gigabyte anywhere on the site. They only work in boards that support registered memory: Xeon workstations and servers, and some X99 boards with a Xeon fitted. A Ryzen or consumer Intel desktop needs unbuffered modules. The Buffered and ECC columns show which is which, and the server page and ECC RAM page collect those modules on their own.

Speed and latency

Speeds here run from 2,133 to 3,600MHz. On a desktop, 3200MHz CL16 is the sensible 64GB buy; at this capacity stability matters more than the last few percent, and a 3600 kit with four sticks may need loosening on AM4. Server RDIMMs run at 2133, 2400, 2666 or 2933MHz depending on the CPU, and a faster module simply runs at the platform's speed. Match the rank organisation (2Rx4, 2Rx8) in the title to anything already fitted in a server; mixing ranks within a channel is a common cause of boot failures on Dell and HPE machines.

Reading the table

The For column and Form Factor column separate desktop DIMMs, laptop SO-DIMMs and server modules. Laptops with two slots reach 64GB with 2x32GB SO-DIMMs, the same kit that tops out the 2018 Mac mini. For desktop-only listings use the 64GB desktop RAM page. If your work fits in less, the 32GB DDR4 page is cheaper; if you are planning a new platform, compare 64GB DDR5 and read DDR4 vs DDR5. All capacities of DDR4: DDR4; all 64GB memory: 64GB.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use 64GB DDR4 server RAM in my desktop?

Not if it is registered. RDIMMs and LRDIMMs only work in platforms that support them, such as Xeon workstations and servers. Ryzen and consumer Intel boards need unbuffered modules. Check the Buffered column: unbuffered ECC UDIMMs work in some AMD consumer boards, but registered modules will not boot in any desktop board.

Should I use 2x32GB or 4x16GB DDR4 for 64GB?

On a dual-channel desktop such as AM4 or mainstream Intel, 2x32GB leaves two slots free and is easier to run at rated speed. On quad-channel X99, X299 and Xeon E5 workstations, 4x16GB is the right layout, one stick per channel. Boards from before 2018 that limit each slot to 16GB also need 4x16GB.

What is the cheapest 64GB DDR4 right now?

The table on this page is sorted by price per gigabyte, so the best-value kit is always at the top. Today the cheapest 64GB DDR4 kit works out at £1.41 per GB. Prices come from Amazon.co.uk and are refreshed daily; open any kit to see its full price history before you buy.

Why rank 64GB DDR4 by price per GB instead of price?

A 32GB kit at £60 is better value than a 16GB kit at £35 even though it costs more. Dividing the price by the total capacity of the kit puts every size and brand on the same scale, which is the only fair way to compare a 2x8GB kit against a single 32GB stick. See price per gigabyte explained.

How do I know a 64GB DDR4 deal is genuine?

Every product page shows the price today against its 30, 90 and 180-day averages and its lowest recorded price. Memory prices rose sharply through 2026, so a kit can look discounted against last month while still being above its typical price for the year; the history graph shows which it is.
