Crucial RAM: memory from a company that makes the chips
Crucial is the consumer brand of Micron, one of the three companies in the world that actually manufacture DRAM. That vertical integration is why Crucial kits are often the cheapest per gigabyte at a given spec and why compatibility guarantees are a big part of the pitch. The 177 Crucial kits above are ranked by price per gigabyte, from £2.66/GB to £28.75/GB (median £8.88/GB); the cheapest right now is Crucial CT102464BD186D 8 GB DDR3L 1866 MT/s (PC3L-14900) CL13 Unbuffer… at £21.30.
The Crucial ranges
- Crucial (plain) and Crucial Pro: bare or low-profile modules at JEDEC speeds (DDR4-3200, DDR5-5600) that run at the rated speed without any BIOS profile. Ideal for office PCs, prebuilts and anyone who does not want to enable XMP. Usually the value leader on this page.
- Crucial Pro Overclocking: the DDR5 kits with XMP and EXPO profiles at 6000MT/s and above for gaming builds.
- Ballistix: the discontinued gaming line, still widely sold new and as Amazon Warehouse stock; Ballistix and Ballistix MAX DDR4 kits at 3200 to 4000MHz remain excellent buys on DDR4 boards.
- Crucial SO-DIMM: laptop modules at 2666, 3200 and DDR5-4800/5600 on the laptop page, and the Crucial Mac-compatible kits for 2017 to 2020 iMacs on the Mac page.
Why choose Crucial
Because the modules run at their rated speed out of the box, Crucial is the safe choice for laptops, small-form-factor PCs and mixed upgrades where you are adding to a stick that is already fitted. Micron dies are also what many premium brands' DDR5 kits use, so a Crucial Pro 6000 kit and a more expensive RGB kit may be electrically the same thing. The trade-off is looks: Crucial Pro heatspreaders are plain black, and there is no RGB range comparable to Corsair or G.Skill.
Crucial's site has a compatibility checker by machine model that is worth using before buying laptop or Mac memory, and the part numbers (CT2K16G4DFRA32A and similar) in the listing titles map directly to it. Use the capacity pages to compare Crucial against other brands at the size you need: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. As with every brand, open the product page and check the price history; Crucial DDR5 in particular rose a long way through 2026 as Micron shifted output to data-centre memory, and the "was" prices on Amazon reflect the peak rather than the norm.
Frequently asked questions
Is Crucial RAM good quality?
Yes. Crucial is Micron's consumer brand, one of three companies that make DRAM, and its modules are known for running at rated speed without a BIOS profile and for a strong compatibility guarantee. The plain and Pro lines are usually among the cheapest per gigabyte at a given spec.
Are Crucial Ballistix kits still worth buying?
Yes. Ballistix was discontinued as a range but the DDR4 kits at 3200 to 4000MHz remain excellent, are still sold new and appear regularly as Amazon Warehouse stock at good prices. They carry Micron dies that overclock well.
What is the cheapest Crucial RAM right now?
The table on this page is sorted by price per gigabyte, so the best-value kit is always at the top. Today the cheapest Crucial RAM kit works out at £2.66 per GB. Prices come from Amazon.co.uk and are refreshed daily; open any kit to see its full price history before you buy.
Why rank Crucial RAM by price per GB instead of price?
A 32GB kit at £60 is better value than a 16GB kit at £35 even though it costs more. Dividing the price by the total capacity of the kit puts every size and brand on the same scale, which is the only fair way to compare a 2x8GB kit against a single 32GB stick. See price per gigabyte explained.
How do I know a Crucial RAM deal is genuine?
Every product page shows the price today against its 30, 90 and 180-day averages and its lowest recorded price. Memory prices rose sharply through 2026, so a kit can look discounted against last month while still being above its typical price for the year; the history graph shows which it is.
